Celebrating Hope, Peace, & Lives that Matter

Members of the Upcounty Community Resources and Main Street Connect join Mama Peace and the Mattie Stepanek Peace Foundation for a beautiful and purposeful celebration of life on Sunday, August 30.

Participants chatted about Mattie – the late poet and peace ambassador, and about Meghan – the late UCR Director and community ambassador.

After reflecting on how both Mattie and Meghan continue to matter, the 2026 #MeghanRocks were place around the Peace Garden – gifts for folks to find in future visits to the park.

Each rock has a QR code on the back that links to information about the Foundation’s #PeaceRocks activity and to the #MeghanRocks Legacy Project.

In addition, participants added new Peace Messages to the ones that were created during the July Peace Day event.

These messages were dissolved in water, and then all the words and images of hope and connection were poured into the Peace Garden – to become one with the earth and to nurture growth and goodness.

“We laughed, and we loved, and we left a bit of ourselves in this special space,” Jeni Stepanek (“Mama Peace”) said. “And we left – touched by the essence of folks in an eternal special space.”
