…folks in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, the Philippines, South Africa, the United Kingdom (and more countries!) connecting virtually with folks across the United States – and choosing to “raise a glass or grateful hands” with the folks enjoying gatherings in Rockville, Maryland and in Cornwall, Prince Edward Island – and saying “peace!” – together – with a global clink…
That is exactly how the inaugural hybrid Toast2Peace on Peace Day unfolded – as hundreds of local and global neighbors celebrated Mattie’s 35th birthday and legacy with a hearty huzzah!
The Zoom screen was filled with the likes of Grammy award winning musician Nile Rodgers, local and national leaders, Peace Certified educators and Foundation Ambassadors, WAFF Global Teen Leaders, and children and families who enjoyed chat-box interactions and some of the Maryland party entertainment.
The Rockville and PEI party-participants included elected and community leaders, Peace Guides and Foundation Board members, community members of all ages, and amazing entertainers – and lots (and lots) of enthusiasm and appreciation for Mattie’s “peace, purpose, and play” legacy.
The annual “party with a purpose” hosted by Mattie’s Peace Foundation is a celebration of the Peace Day Proclamations issued by the City of Rockville, Montgomery County, and the State of Maryland – in honor of the late teen poet and peace ambassador’s July 17 birthday.
