A Toast of Thanks to World of Beer - Rockville, MD
“We have a check for you.”
This was the text message Jeni Stepanek, PhD – President of the Mattie Stepanek Peace Foundation received from Brandy and Dan Coss – Manager and Bartender at World of Beer in Rockville, Maryland.
WOB had partnered with the Foundation to co-host the 2025 “Toast2Peace on Peace Day” event in honor of Mattie’s 35th birthday back on July 17. So, Jeni knew that a donation would be forthcoming – once the business sorted out the percentage portion from food and drink sales that day.
But when Jeni rolled across the street to her “favorite happy hour spot” – she was not expecting such a generous amount!
“I think this will bring you a smile,” Dan said – as he handed her a check for $5,000.
“Wow! and thank you!” was her response, followed by a big hug, and then (of course) and quick toast – to gratitude, and peace.
“We love supporting community,” Dan told Jeni. “And supporting what you are doing – bringing hope and peace to the Rockville community, and to the world, well, that is an easy thing for us to get behind!”
In addition to co-hosting the 2026 Peace Day celebration next July, World of Beer also has begun working with the Foundation to plan a winter toast event to take place later this year during December or January.
