Mattie's Spiritual Life & Legacy Shared
Dr. Jeni Stepanek, Mattie’s mom and President of Mattie Stepanek Peace Foundation spent an evening at The Catholic University of America – her alma mater – sharing information and inspiration about Mattie’s spiritual life and legacy.
Hosted by Bethlehem House International, the event was part of the weekly “Best Buddies” program gathering on the campus.
Following a Mass offered by Fr. William Gurnee, participants gathered for dinner and a presentation about Mattie’s “Heartsong” messages of hope and peace and purpose. Mattie said many of these messages were placed in his heart by God, and that his purpose on earth was to “shape and share” the messages for all people to hear and understand.
After hearing from Mattie’s mom, participants heard from Kathy Dempsey – who is the President of the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Guild.
Whereas Mattie’s FOUNDATION continues Mattie’s mission of cultivating “pathways to peace” through personal and community choices, Mattie’s GUILD is gathering and sharing information about Mattie’s life and virtues – both to inspire others and also for the purpose of Mattie’s possible Cause of Canonization (or sainthood) in the Catholic Church.
For members of the CUA Best Buddies program as well as invited guests, the evening was filled with conversation about living with purpose, and choosing to be and do good – for ourselves, for others, for our world, and for “beyond the here and now.”
